Now Hiring Product Development Engineer: Thermal

Job Summary: 

This is a highly technical position whose primary responsibility is the design, development, and testing of heaters and heated systems for customer specific applications. This individual will work closely with the Chief Engineer, Sales, and other R&D staff in the execution of specific design and development projects for thermal products.

The successful candidate will understand how to calculate the thermal and electrical requirements for heating various media. Mechanical calculations are often needed to assure proper support of heated materials. This individual must have a thorough knowledge of the heat transfer and should be able to identify mechanical, thermal, and electrical limitations that should be considered in the design of a heated system.

Education and Skills:

This position requires a minimum of a two year technical degree or multiple years of college courses that include electrical, heat transfer, and mechanical coursework with a minimum of 5 years work experience or a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, or Systems Engineering with less than 5 years experience.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Management, design, and development of projects for thermal systems applications under the direction of the Chief Engineer.
  2. Where applicable, search out materials to optimize thermal performance per application. Test and evaluate same.
  3. Build, test, and evaluate prototypes for specific applications.
  4. Maintain project file records.
  5. Communicate with peers and supervisors on project status on a regular and need-to-know basis.
  6. Maintain customer contact as needed.

Additional Requirements:

  1. Practical knowledge and use of most shop hand and power tools.
  2. Practical knowledge and use of basic measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, scales, etc.
  3. Proficient in MS Excel and Word. Effective communication skills, both written and oral.
  4. Good math skills to include: Algebra, Trig, and Geometry. Able to perform applicable Engineering calculations.
  5. Ability to work standing most of the day, when needed. Able to travel occasionally as needed.
  6. Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, and excel at problem solving and troubleshooting.
