Thermafoil Flexible Graphite is an excellent high temp seal but has a major draw-back when it comes to tensile strength and extrusion resistance. But over the years, EGC has been successful when asked to retrofit an elastomer or polymer when temperatures got unbearably high. It takes a big engineer to make flexible graphite behave like a rubber seal. By compositing and reinforcing Thermafoil with a wire matrix, we’ve developed seals that can thermally expand and then be wrapped onto an O-ring groove. Now that’s tensile strength. And the wire matrix also acts as an extrusion barrier for greater durability and a longer life.
