So easy to install, it makes “piece of cake” look complicated.

Installation of a VSG high-density graphite pressure seal is SO easy because it’s compressible and conformable. So, it can work in oversize, out-of-round, steam cut and pitted bonnet cavities. And, there’s hardly ever a need for welding, grinding or re-machining.

Let’s get started.

Locate the VSG pressure seal you ordered using the VSG Data Collection sheet. Once you open the box you will notice that the seal is held in place with plastic zip ties that have a release tab built into them. These zip ties were chosen so that they didn’t have to be cut to protect the seal. Push the release tab to free up the pressure seal from the package.

Please note that you are not to remove the cellophane tape that is holding the anti-extrusion devices onto the pressure seal. You will also find installation instructions in the package for your techs to refer to in the field.

Prior to installing the pressure seal, it is best to use some scotch bright or emery cloth to wipe down the sealing surfaces of the valve to ensure there is no debris left on them.

Place your VSG pressure seal insert into the valve, install the backing or spacer rings followed by the segmented keeper ring. After placing the bonnet cover on and installing the studs, new nuts and hardened washers you will utilize a star pattern at 30%, 60% and 90% as described on our installation sheet to pull up the pressure seal bonnet. During the final pass you will use a clockwise pattern to 100% of the required torque.

And, EGC always recommends that you run a hot-torque check of the bonnet fasteners when the system is in operation.

It’s that easy.

And remember, the VSG replaces any metal seal. It’s engineered for each individual application and can be designed, manufactured and shipped in just 48 hours, even faster using our FastTrack expedite program. You can fly through the installation process with our instructions or watch the installation video below. And, if you have any questions, call one of our engineers at 440.285.5835.
